La Sportiva Helios SR Review

Before I start the review, I have to say, this is the best looking off-road shoe Iโ€™ve ever seen. The Helios SR by La Sportiva is pretty awesome. La Sportiva markets the Helios SR as a shoe for sky races and vertical competitions. However, I think the shoe is more versatile than that. I think it could be used for a plain-jane 50k or 50-miler if minimalism is your thing.

The shoe weighs in at 8.3 ounces (size 10.5/43.5).

It has a 21mm heel and a 19mm forefoot โ€“ a 2mm drop.

The shoe is very flexible and it fits a little snug, but not too snug. Itโ€™s actually rather perfect โ€“ like putting on a slipper to hit the trails โ€“ but not just any slipper โ€“ a slipper with some badass tread. With that being said, you may want to size-up a half size.

The shoe is very well-made. The materials are top quality. La Sportiva hasnโ€™t quite hit the mainstream U.S. shoe market and that is a shame โ€“ the company has some excellent offerings.

What else can I say? The Helios SR nailed it.

Pros:

โ€“ weight โ€“ 8.3 ounces is perfect for racing
โ€“ appearance โ€“ this shoe is badass
โ€“ nice outsole
โ€“ more versatile than advertised

Cons:

โ€“ price โ€“ Running Warehouse sells the Helios SR for $125 (get 10% off with code RUNBLOG10).
